Piracy in Asian waters up 5 percent in 2009
SINGAPORE, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Sea attacks in Asian regional waters increased by 5 percent in 2009, local media reported on Thursday.
Human hair extensionsAccording to the Information-Sharing Center of ReCAAP (Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia), there were 101 attacks last year, five more than the 96 attacks in the Hair extensions previous year, local newspaper the Straits Times reported.
The worst-hit areas were the South China Sea to the north-east of
embroidered patches Singapore and the waters off Bangladesh. Piracy hit a five-year high in the South China Sea, with 13 reports of sea attacks reported there last year, surpassing the previous high of nine in 2005.
The ReCAAP said that the piracy situation was not as grave as some seafarers had thought it would be with the dire financial times.
