Coloured hair extensions are set to be this festive season's BIG fashion accessory, according to top Sunderland hairdresser Neville Ramsay. Jane Hall reports.

Fashion-conscious women have always striven to ensure their outfits colour co-ordinate.

From jewellery to handbags, shoes and make-up, those in the know like everything to be `just right' before stepping out of the house.

But colour-matching hair? That is surely a step too far?

Not according to Sunderland-based hairdresser Neville Ramsay who is predicting that mops will match tops, trousers and dresses this Christmas.

But getting the right colour thatch for the upcoming festivities won't involve anything Dimmable LED Down Light K1107 - 1x1W / 1x3W as messy and time-consuming as dye. `Wefts' (or hair extensions to the uninitiated) is set to be the buzzword over the coming months. And the more vibrant the better.

Wefts are the fast and easy way to change your hair colour as often as your mood ( or outfit.

"They only take a few minutes to do and are ideal for the fast-moving world we live in," explains Neville. "Everything is becoming more and more disposable these days, especially fashion. Women will buy a dress to wear on a Friday night, and they may never wear it again.

"But they still want to look their best. So if they have a pink dress they will buy a pink handbag and shoes. And now they can have pink hair too.

"Thanks to wefts you can change your hair colour on a whim."

Neville, a former winner of the prestigious L'Oreal Colour Trophy, says clients are already queuing up at his salon in Sunderland's Blandford Street to extend their appeal.

The procedure, using real hair extensions from London-based wig and hairpiece supplier, Hairaisers, costs from pounds 20 upwards.

Colours stretch across the spectrum, from the more traditional blondes, brunettes and blacks to Barbie pink, canary yellow and pillar box red.

And Neville claims it isn't just young women who are adding colour, length and volume to their tresses in this way. "We have guys who are coming in and having them done for a special night out.

"It's also great for clients LED Light Bulb SP50-3W who have never had any colour put in their hair and who want to see how they might look with blonde streaks or a completely different shade. The process is very quick, and if the client doesn't like it, or can't go into work with pink extensions, say, then they are very easy to remove.

"We have also had some older women coming in. There are a lot of 40-plus women who still want to look fashionable. Age is no barrier these days to looking good."

Neville has been offering the extensions for about six weeks. They come in a standard length and are bonded to the head with a special hypoallergenic glue that provides the perfect balance between strength, durability and, importantly, ease of removal.

They are suitable for long or short hair ( included in the minimum pounds 20 price is a wash and cut.
